MOISTURE OR DUST IN THE HEADLIGHT/TAILLIGHT HOUSING

Moisture build up in the housing can cause severe damage to the wiring harness, and its components causing corrosion and rust over time, left untreated, moisture combined with heat from the bulb can also effect the chrome on the reflective surface to peel and shrivel . Moisture can enter the housing in one of three ways.

1.The boot on the back of the housing

The silicon seal around the lens. This is the most expensive fix. If the lens has been previously replaced or the silicon is just giving up over time. The lens has to be removed and the silicon cleaned and reapplied. This process is same as lens replacement.

2. Clogged up vent

Clogged up vent. Many headlights come with a vent meant to release build up moisture. Make sure the vents aren’t clogged. A tooth pick can do the trick.

Light bulb replacement

Light bulb replacement may seem simple enough, but proper lightbulb replacement can save you a lot of headache down the road. Putting the boot meant for access to the bulb back properly will prevent moisture and dust from entering your lighting housing, a simple fact overlooked by most. Bulb must never be touched without gloves, natural skin oils, and contaminates can significantly shorten the bulbs life.

At vivid we treat the bulb replacement like a surgery. A clean new glove is worn and extra care taken to ensure no foreign contaminants are introduced to the headlight housing. Lightbulb replacement can take anywhere from 5 to 40 min depending on ease of access.
